I've seen this described at 3D which isn't exactly accurate since it doesn't pop off the screen. I get that they're trying to establish that it's different from the 2D animation, but that isn't quite it. Alexey Zakharov has created an impressive CG modeled Futurama including cityscape and the Planet Express ship. You'll notice that it has a Star Trek influence pulled straight out of JJ Abrams films with the lens flare and rack focus. It's very cool though. http://vimeo.com/100785455
