If Any of the Following Movie Adaptations Suck... Blame This Guy

I don't do the whole movie news thing usually, mostly because it makes me sad. I couldn't ignore this bit of news as the same new writer (and granted he's 28 so it's not like he's a baby) is writing not one, but three adaptations of properties you're likely to give a shit about.

And they are:

The Flash

Bleach

Johnny Quest

So if any of those movies suck you can partially (not fully lets be honest a lot of people help make a movie and he's got very limited control over what the directors do with the script) blame Dan Mazeau for laying the ground work for the films. For Bleach fans, Mazeau has said that he doesn't want another Dragonball Z movie... yeah, I would hope that that never actually needed to be said outloud and we could all agree from the tailer that no one wanted that. I get it though... you have to say something right? Also it looks like Flash is the next big DC movie and that's why I don't do the "film beat." Back to you Kevin!

Review: Flash #5

Flash is in this book! Lastissue the Scarlet Speedster appeared in only the last panel.  Issue five has Barry dealing with theblackout in Gem City.  Captain Coldcontinues to ice things down, and Dr. Elias and Manuel Lago deal with theclones from Mob Rule that have a short life span problem like those replicants from BladeRunner.

Flash delivers some emergency equipment from WayneEnterprises to the people stranded on the bridge.  Then he rescues Iris at Iron Heights.  One awkwardly funny moment comes fromBarry releasing frozen cops from their icy state.  One cop asks how The Flash managed to melt the ice imprisoning him it and gets a one-wordanswer: “Friction.”  That’s goodstuff.

Flash rushes off to fight a whole gang of clones.  When he busts through to the generatorthat could provide hope to Mob Rule’s little premature death problem, The Flashis stopped my Manuel.  As thegenerator goes critical, Barry funnels the explosion out.  And he’s rewarded by having Manuel curbstomp his face.  Manuel goes nutswhen he believes himself to be one with the Mob Rule gestalt.

And Flash finds out that his Speed Force has been opening uptears in the fabric of space and time. That was a great teaser to end the issue.

This is a well-scripted book.  The pacing moved as a Flash comic book ought to.  With the action moving from oneconflict to another, the story never felt dull or tired.  I can’t tell you how much of animprovement this was over the previous issue.  We had the Flash AND the build up of key plot points.  You can do both, so don’t argue with methat some comics need to build story by not featuring the main character.

I like the new threat that the Speed Force poses, but I seemto be caught up on the Flash’s power in this ‘New 52’ version (how long do Ihave to call it that?)

Flash’s ability to tap into the speed force means he can domore than just run fast.  He can“stop time and see practically every variable and calculate every course ofaction before it happened (page 6). Seems like Flash’s powers are getting pretty omnipotent if you ask me.

Anyway, this book won’t disappoint Flash fans.

Why in The Hell Not?: Australia to Issue Super Hero License Plates

Live in Australia? Well, "good on ya' mate" because you're getting DC licenses plates for your car. A deal between Warner Brothers and Aussie state road and transport authority, VicRoads. The list of DC heroes are as follows : Superman (Duh)  Supergirl, Batman (Super fuckinn' duh), Green Lantern, The Flash and Wonder Woman ( no pants).

Alan Morecroft, the  VicRoads custom plates manager had these little nuggets of information on what to expect.

"The superhero plates are great value and start at just $200 for customers to upgrade a general issue plate with the design, or $404 to choose their own 3x3 [letter and number] combination as well. Also if there are any Marvel fans out there waiting for the possibility for The Hulk or The Wolverine, well they can go eat shit because Silver Surfers and his whole space shit is played out and the new Ultimate line sucks "*

Huh? What the hell Alan? That was a cheap shot at Marvel there buddy. But you do make some sound points and I can respect that. But the burning question is...what's up with the dated ass artwork? 1989 called and they said for you to go ahead and keep that shit! Not only that I'd love to see Galactus--awe never mind.

*ED NOTE: Alan Morecroft did not say anything negative about Marvel or any of their licensed proprieties. This was a joke all made in jest but WE do believe that he agrees that is some wack-ass art.
