DC Declares June 12 Man of Steel Day

People worry that comic shops will go extinct one day, but I think there's always going to be hold outs no matter what. Why? Because of things like FCBD (Though I agree with Ken Eppstein of Nix Comics and it should just be Comic Book day) and things like Man of Steel day.

If you go to your participating comic book shop on Wednesday, June 12, then you'll receive a free special edition of Action Comics #1 and will also be able to purchase the first issue of Superman: Unchained as well. I know at this point basically everyone owns a copy of the new Action Comics, but consider this: Marvel gave away the first Ultimate Spider-Man for FCBD so many times that eventually the first prints of the FCBD edition actual have a value now. Yeah, a free issue is worth money.

That's not the only reason you should go as DC/WB is sending promotional posters and bags to shops and it will also be the first day to pick up some of the grotesque action figures they've created for the film. DC even has you covered if you're a digital fan too, but fuck that shit you can look it up on your own.

New Clip For Lego Batman: The Movie - It's Joker Time!

There's plenty to read after the jump about the new voice actors taking on some major roles in the movie so stick around for that.

The first day on a job is never easy. It only gets that much more difficult when you’re following a legend.

Such was the case for Troy Baker, Travis Willingham and Christopher Corey Smith – three talented young voice actors who stepped into the recording booth – and some very large shoes – for LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Superheroes Unite.

The trio was tasked with creating the voices of Batman, Superman and the Joker, all the while remaining respectful to the landmark performances of some very well-loved actors that had come before. Early reviews say the three actors hit their mark, as well as outstanding notices for the ever-hilarious performance of Charlie Schlatter as the voice of Robin.

Official Trailer For Batman: Arkham Origins and New Pics

I have to say that this opening action sequence is pretty impressive. Not only was the action smooth, but it was fitting of the characters. Let's hope that the story is as good in the game huh? There are a bunch of other pics of the game including a few showing it in action, ie: group fights and utility belt usage, but the rest are just of the Unreal Engine doing work and making everything all beefy looking. Lastly, don't let the length of the trailer scare you away, it's worth view.

The Spandex Retrospective: Batman (1989)

1989's “Batman” clearly didn't invent superhero films but for the next decade it might have well have.  It was a cultural and financial phenomenon; it's box-office crushing success slapped Batman's yellow and black escutcheon on the t-shirts and velcro wallets of seemingly every man in America and after long last gave the general comic illiterate public an image of the caped crusader that wasn't Adam West. The early 90's would be spent trying to duplicate Batman's success, with studios swinging bottles haphazardly at lighting with expensive films like “The Shadow” and “Dick Tracy”, thinking the magic lay somewhere hidden between a big name on the poster and an art-deco aesthetic.

However, all of that doesn't actually answer whether it was any good. “Batman”, despite being one of the biggest cultural phenomena in film since “Star Wars”, seems to be more of a catalyst for comic-book media than genuinely memorable as a motion picture. There's no “can you read my mind?” quotability and many might remember it most vividly for the infamous Prince musical numbers. Has time been kind?

Artistic! Heroes and Their Sidekicks

Usually I don't go in for this whole adorable kids crap and comics (sorry Scottie Young), but French artist Andry Rajoelina has won me over with this series called "Justice Families." Check out the set after the jump and no you will not struggle to figure out any of them. If you do... read more comics.

Kingdom Come The Fan Film/Trailer -- Don't Mind If I Do!

I was pretty excited to watch this fan trailer for Kingdom Come, but I'm going to lower your expectation for it some. I don't know if it was the acting or that the costumes felt like costumes more than actual uniforms, but this trailer never really hit that sweet spot for me. Don't get me wrong, the opening was great. It's just everything after that was kind of meh. I does make me wish that they had turned this into one of their cartoons before shutting down the Premiere line, but oh well.

Fetish Model Bianca Beauchamp Is Back As Poison Ivy

I couldn't pass up posting this, mostly because of the above image and how goofy it looks. Beauchamp may not be for everyone's tastes, but it something to look at for a minute. Enjoy.

Sandra Chevrier's Superhero Collage and Portraits

We kind of ended up with a "DC" theme this weekend... sorry? I guarantee that these art pieces are going to be very different from everything else though. They're from Canadian artist Sandra Chevrier and it's a combination of a portrait mixed with a collage of old comic books. The series is called, "Caged" and it only features women portraits, but the comics are DC characters... not all women either. Just check it out for yourself because I have no way of explaining... I'm still trying to figure out why they're called "Caged".
