Retro Review: Dead To Rights (OGN)

Some of you might actually remember the Namco 2002 release of the game Dead to Rights. It was an over the top action game that met with mixed reviews; it eventually spawned a sequel in 2005, but I’m going to talk about the comic book tie-in from the first game. To be honest, I haven’t played either of the games, but I enjoyed hearing about other people’s experiences. I was sent the trade to read which it’s more of an oversized issue with a self-contained story, but I found the story to be very intriguing.

Why am I talking about a book that is now a decade old? Well, because most video game tie-in stories try to fill in the gaps of a game. Sometimes they’ll take place right smack dab in the middle of the game's story or they’ll take place before or after the events that everyone just got done playing. This comic is unusual in that takes place just before the game begins and continues until just after it’s kicked off, but what’s very strange is that it doesn’t follow the main character of the game at all. In fact the main character Jack Slate is only mentioned in the story, but never shown.

Finally The Shifty Look Comic I've Been Waiting For... Katamari

I'm a pretty big fan of Katamari if you can't tell by the picture of my cat holding my copy of the first game. It's a series that I love and feel no need to pointless ramble on about. I'm very excited that Shifty Look has announced that it's next free web comic will be Katamari. The full press releases is after the break, but over at Destructoid (who we think is the bee's knees), they grabbed some exclusive info on the series and some extra images so check it out. After the jump you'll see the awesome T-Shirt that I will fight you to the death to purchase. P.S. I know I'm going to hear shit for this picture.

NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc., a subsidiary of NAMCO BANDAI Holdings Inc. (TYO: 7832), announced today the addition of a new webcomic based on the iconic Katamari series to its ShiftyLook media platform. Shifty Look and Area 11 At London Comic Con MCM Expo

I love bringing everyone events to check out in their local areas. We cover L.A. and California a lot, Oregon, New York and even Belgium. Well today we have an event that Shifty Look is putting on for free next weekend at MCM Expo. The event starts at 8:00 pm and besides having games, comedians and other cool Shifty Look/ Namco Bandai stuff you can check out the Gaijin Rock band Area 11.

Really if you're going to a comic con you want to attend as many events as possible and sadly this one sounds like more fun then any of the ones I've been too. Like a lot more fun... I probably need to go to more than one event before I start rating them. They'll also have a designer from Aradman Animations who will bringing Wallace and Gromit puppets... you Brits love that right? Yeah... you do. Anyways, check this out and in the meantime enjoy an Area 11 video and stop by Shifty Look's sign up page for more info.

PR: Dig Dug Web Comic From Shifty Look, Fucking Awesome!

The first video game I ever played on the Atari was Dig Dug, I fucking loved it. I even broke my Sidekick II playing Dig Dug on it, I think got to level 40 and then it rest from the beginning which was a bummer. I love Dig Dug, so when Shifty Look and Namco Bandai let me know that there were planning a mega collaboration of comic creators for another of their web comics I had a little kid moment of joy. They announced the news today on their podcast and of course with a press release. The talent lined up is intense and hopefully enough people check out the webcomic so that Namco Bandai says, "Hey Dustin, we'll totally clean up those graphics and give you a "Mega Man X" inspired Dig Dug for your X-Box, because we know you don't touch your PS3 ever." Here is all the info you need and be sure to check it out on ShiftyLook.com.

NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc., a subsidiary of NAMCO BANDAI Holdings Inc. (TYO: 7832), announced today during the inaugural ShiftyCast podcast a webcomics collaboration project to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the legendary Dig Dug franchise. Appearing on its ShiftyLook webcomics platform, Dig Dug comics join NAMCO BANDAI Games's extensive line-up of webcomics re-imagining classic arcade games including smash hits Bravoman (writer: Matt Moylan; artist: Dax Gordine) and The Five-Dimensional Adventures of Dirk Davies (writer: Ben McCool; artist: Dean Haspiel).
