Interview: Davien Watkins and N.O.T.E.S.

There are always new comic books and new ideas coming out and today I have an interview with Davien Watkins the Owner and Creator at Superhero Enterprises. We had a chat about his first property entitled N.O.T.E.S. which you can read here.

Comic Bastards)  What is  N.O.T.E.S. about? From the origin-esc story on the site, it seemed as if it was about a rapper that can also convert music into energy.

Davien Watkins)  "N.O.T.E.S." is our most powerful science fiction superhero and a highly-skilled pioneer in music technology, whose purpose is to transform and enhance the experience of making and editing electronic music. Comic book superheroes are supposed to provide role models that are potentially used by children in developing self images. N.O.T.E.S. symbolizes these qualities of high moral character, courage, generosity, and honor of a noble spirit.

CB)  How does  N.O.T.E.S. convert the music into energy? And is he powerless when there isn’t any music?

DW)  "N.O.T.E.S." is not a rapper. This is what I can reveal to you right now related to his back ground, and superpowers.

CB)  What conflicts will  N.O.T.E.S. have to face as the story progresses?

DW)  Imagine a fictional record industry universe resembling the real world, that incorporates real-life people, objects, etc. The world surrounding our superhero N.O.T.E.S. is interesting and full of conflicting threats from dangerous digital pirates, greedy corporate executives, and authoritative government officials. As the story progresses N.O.T.E.S. will encounter the odds of out of control crime waves, environmental disasters, corporate wars, piracy, etc.

CB)  How are you planning on releasing the comic? Web only, print or digital download?

DW)  The comic will be available exclusively digital and viewable at our website for now.

CB)  What format will Notes be released in? Single issues or collected hardcover? Additionally how long will the story run for?

DW)  Until further notice the story will be available online at our website. We are also considering a graphic novel format in the long-term. For the second of your question....our goals is to have the N.O.T.E.S. story told and re-told again just as the origin stories of the Greek muses have been told for centuries before Christ.

CB)  Were there any musical influences for the story or characters?

DW)  The story of N.O.T.E.S. is loosely based on my experiences in the record industry. This took place during the rap Renaissance era (mid to late–1990s).

CB)  If ever a comic was going to have a soundtrack, it seems like Notes would be the likely choice. Any possibility of the first comic book soundtrack?

DW)  You'll definitely be seeing the musical soundtrack attached to this project. In fact there is music currently available online at our social network site for your readers to listen to right now:

CB)  What audience are you hoping to reach with  N.O.T.E.S.? The average comic fan, rap fans or those that fall into both categories?

DW)  Ours is a niche audience...so right we're in the mid-range of average comic book fans, music fans, and those that fall into the categories of general entertainment fans. We think  the fan base and audience will grow as the more and more become familiar with the character.

I'd like to thank Davien Watkins for taking the time to talk to us and you can head over to SuperheroEnterprises.com to read the first issue of N.O.T.E.S. and future issues as well.
