What The Fuck Is Up With Orc Stain Vol. 1?

Update 3: I know I said I wasn't going to, but I had to.
Update 2: Jump to the bottom again! (That's what she said)
Update: Jump to the bottom to get updated!

Earlier in the week I posted a First Look for Orc Stain #7 from Image. You remember that I told you to fuck yourself if you didn't like it, that part still stands. Apparently though I can go fuck myself for recommending a book that no one can buy without some degree of difficulty. This was pointed out to me by one of our readers "The Coon" and then reaffirmed by "Ed A." who was able to buy the book in the UK without pulling down his pants and letting "the man" have at him. The rest of you would have to un-button said trousers and take it though.

Here is the book on Amazon and note that it's not Amazon setting that price, but private sellers that have chosen the price of $1,362.38.

No offense towards the sellers, but I would never buy anything from them ever and I can't say that anyone should. Their names are here so that you can protect yourself: JoyPros, AbeBooks Marketplace 3 and the real kicker is that both sellers are selling the book used for more.

I reached out to James Stokoe via Twitter since that was the only direct contact I could get with him, but never heard back. I would have asked Image, but I'm heard they were busy this weekend with an expo or something and figured that it would be ignored until afterwards. I'll follow up with them after the weekend, but I have to wonder how a book that is so wildly popular with people that do know about it could ever go out of print in this modern age? I mean the First Look we had wasn't even available to us until after it ran on another site and was more than likely embargoed for them as well. One thing is for sure, Image and James need to work something out so that this book can be purchased at a normal price and clearly their missing out on readers and money by not already having it available.

Update: James got back to me via Twitter and let me know that reprints of the trade are on their way, but during a server change several of the pages were lost and he has to refix a bunch of things. He didn't specify if the lost pages where caused by him or Image, but since I know that Image recently switched everything on their site last year that it was more than likely them. He also thinks that the Amazon pricing is caused to a glitch with Amazon that automatically prices it that high. I've actually reached out to both retailers to see what they have to say.

Update 2: After contacting both retailers I heard back from JoyPros. They told me that the book is not currently in their inventory and not to buy. They were also very confused about the pricing and where in the process of removing it from Amazon. Currently it is still there and listed at $3,999 used. There are also two other retailers that are selling the book for a hundred bucks which is still pretty damn outrageous. On eBay the book is going for 20 bucks plus shipping which isn't bad for a first print that's not looking to have a second print any time soon.

That's the last update unless I hear from Image, but I would recommend waiting or trying to track down the single issues. They were relatively easy to find most of them on eBay which means they're out there. Happy hunting Bastards.

Update 3: So I heard back from AbeBooks who told me and I quote, "Thank you for the e-mail. That is the current price for the book. Thank you!" The funny thing is that now they no longer have a listing for the book at all! I guess they sold their used copy for four grand and retired or something. What's really ridiculous is that more retailers are trying to sell the book for around the $100 mark. Again, don't buy this book from Amazon and just wait for it to be reprinted in trade or do a single issue scavenger hunt. Or... just buy them digitally for $1.99 each and stick it to the man. They're on Comixology

Well done for getting to the bottom of this.

Not sure what the international shipping rates are like but if it helps (and on the off-chance it works out cheaper for you) I found a copy on Amazon.co.uk and Forbidden Planet, who are the UK's only big comics retailer, (http://forbiddenplanet.com/) also have copies in stock.
