Review: Godzilla Kingdom of Monsters #12

IDW, you can go and fuck yourself. Really. You andGeorge Lucas get the reward for taking beloved franchises and shitting allover it. He did it with StarWars and Indiana Jones. Youare doing it with Ghostbustersand Godzilla. I admit, you had me so hooked into yourGodzilla, Kingdom of Monsters series. I gave issue 10 a five out of five because it did everything right. You had monsters fighting. You kept the dialogue to a minimum andthe monsters to a maximum. Butthis is shit that would make Professor X get up and walk away from.I’m giving this issue a big old goose egg. First off, you don’t have Godzilla inone damn panel of this entire issue. You end a series with the equivalent of a flashback episode. There’s only hints of the monsters, too many images of the destruction, and excessive signs of the humans adapting to a world withmonsters. The cameo at the enddoes well to foreshadow future stories, but that’s not enough to make me feelbetter.
This issue should have been a Zero issue (not just becausethat’s the score it got). You see, zero issues lead up to something like a prologue or close out something like anepilogue.
I was hoping for some knockdown drag out shit that would topthe awesome fights and pacing of the previous issues. I’m like Emperor Joseph the Second of Austria in Amadeus—I need the big crescendo at the end to know theopera is coming to a close.
Instead, you end a twelve issue run with scenes reminiscentof Armageddon after John McClane blowsup the asteroid. But you nevershow me the asteroid blowing up.
The series ends here but resumes in May with writer DuaneSwierczynski and artist Simon Gane.
I will be there to read and review it. I just hope that Godzilla shows upsomewhere in that book.
IDW, you know how to get the best licensing. But you don't know what to do with it once you got it.
Score: WTF
