Kirkman Sells Out... Thief of Thieves #1

Eric dug this book and gave it a decent review. I on the other hand felt that the interactions with characters where not very genuine and I wanted to punch everyone when they talked. Also the step by step internet definitions on how to steal cars pissed me off and bored me at the same time. Regardless, Kirkman and Spencer sold out. I mean that in every way possible. Here's our PR bump.

Continuing a trend for Image Comics in 2012, THIEF OF THIEVES #1, the first issue of a new series by Robert Kirkman (THE WALKING DEAD), Nick Spencer (MORNING GLORIES), and Shawn Martinbrough has sold out. The issue has immediately gone back to press and a second printing (DEC118235), with a new cover by Martinbrough, will be in stores on the same day as THIEF OF THIEVES #2, March 14.

The story of a master thief who gives up a luxurious and thrilling life of crime to try to salvage everything he lost -- his family and a life above ground -- by leaving it all behind, THIEF OF THIEVES launched on February 8. Prior to sale, there was wide interest in Kirkman bringing a television-style writing process to comics. A team of writers helps to refine the story of THIEF OF THIEVES, with Kirkman at the helm to guide the story.

Like all Image Comics titles, THIEF OF THIEVES #1 is available on a variety of electronic platforms as well as in comic book stores.

I thought it was alright. The car-stealing scene did not feel genuine at all, I'll agree with you on that.

I seriously dug the art though. Quality inks and fan-bloody-tastic colours.

My main gripe is that we would have no idea what is motivating Redmond if it wasn't for the PR and previews stating that he wants to get his family back. Pro-tip for Kirkman: Either keep a significant plot detail like that a mystery or say it in the actual book.

I'd give it a story 5/10 and art 8/10. Art only loses one point for having too many 5x 'widescreen' panel pages and another for not being some kind of revolutionary masterpiece.

I'll see out the Spencer story arc and await the announcement of the next arc-writer. If they change the art team then I'm dropping it like a gangsta-rapper told me to.

The art was the only redeemable thing about it. Even if there was a Cheshire cat moment with the chick's face at one point. I'm just waiting for this book to blow up as well since Kirkman apparently can't work with other super stars. He's too much of a control freak, just look at how many people were fired from the Walking Dead after the first season.

Also thanks for posting a comment Ed! I may not get to all of them, but it's awesome to dialog with you.
