Interview: Alex Lei Upcoming Artist For Executive Assistant: Iris
Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 8:00AM Recently I had a chance to talk with Executive Assistant: Iris artists Alex Lei about his upcoming run on the series, but also pump him for some details about the Extinction Crossover that hits this December. In addition to that we also have the first pages released from his run on the book so enjoy them while reading the interview and be sure to pick the book up in December.

CB) What are you most excited about for the Executive Extinction crossover?
AL) EA Iris is a surprisingly dynamic persona whose plots are full of action and suspense. It is always exciting to work with this type of character. Surprises never stop happening.
CB) How does working on a crossover affect your art style? Do you stay true to your own artistic voice or have you and Jordon found a middle ground to meet on?
AL) I am number one fan of the founding artists of Aspen. And some of my influences are publishing them. So, the style helps me a lot and makes me feel at home.

CB) Anything about the story that you can tell us about? Any “oh shit” moments perhaps?
AL) No, unfortunately I know very little of the plot. But if I knew and I told you, I'd have to kill you.
CB) Fair enough.
CB) As for your art background, are you self-taught with tons of practice or did you go to school to continue your development?
AL) I'm what we call self -taught. I learned to draw alone. Basically reading comic books.

CB) What’s been you’re favorite part about working with Aspen?
AL) I really like the character of Aspen. I love Fathom, Soulfire and EA Iris, but the team I work with make me feel comfortable and confident.
CB) If Iris comes up to you and tells you she’s pregnant and it’s your kid; do you keep it or give up for adoption knowing that her life is pretty crazy?
AL) Laughs ... I think I would keep him. Iris suffered enough in orphanages. I do not let it happen to your child. And sure she would help me take care of the child. After all, behind that cold look hides a person of great heart.
We'd like to extend a big thank you to Alex and Aspen Comics and wish them luck on the series which will be out in December.
